- An American is someone who believes in greatness without necessarily having the strength or determination to do anything to achieve it. Sure, we've got the Olympians, authors, NASA, and such. But they have those labels. An American is just another label, just another identifier for the average Joe walking down Main street. And unfortunately for Joe, we've, we've stopped achieving. Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for posting your responses. All four were interesting, but the fourth really stands out. In the past, the US has always been culturally identified with unshakable optimism, but maybe this is changing. dw
